Panna Meena ka Kund
07:00open 07:00–18:0030–45 min12 km

Panna Meena ka Kund

The criss-cross steps throw their cleanest diagonals in the first hour; by ten the light is flat and the steps are full.

16th c. — A sixteenth-century stepwell in Amer with symmetrical steps on three sides — built to harvest rain for the town below the fort.

Free entry

Gulzar: We do this before Amer, not after — the fort’s opening queue forms at the same time the kund is empty.

Amer Fort
08:00open 08:00–17:30 (last entry 17:00)2–3 hrs11 km

Amer Fort

Gates open at eight. Soft east light on the ramparts over Maota Lake, and ninety minutes before the coach parties climb the ramp.

1592 — Begun in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I and extended for a century; Sheesh Mahal’s mirror-work and the Ganesh Pol gate are the two rooms everyone remembers.

Entry ₹200 · foreign ₹1,000● composite ticket

Gulzar: Walk up the ramp (20 minutes) or take a jeep from the base; we wait at the lower car park, not at a shop. Elephant rides run 07:30–12:30 at a government-fixed rate.

Jal Mahal
10:15open Viewing from the lake road, daylight15–30 min7 km

Jal Mahal

A photo stop on the way back from Amer; the morning reflection on Man Sagar Lake is still. (Sunset is the other good hour.)

c. 1699 — Built around 1699 and remodelled by Maharaja Madho Singh I as a summer retreat; the palace interior is closed — four of its five storeys sit under water.

Free entry

Gulzar: Camel owners and photographers work this pavement. Say no once, politely; we are parked thirty metres on.

Hawa Mahal
10:45open 09:00–17:0030–45 min5 km

Hawa Mahal

The honeycomb faces east: the sun is on all 953 windows until about eleven. Photograph it from the street first, then go inside for the view back out.

1799 — Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, designed by Lal Chand Ustad so the women of the court could watch the street unseen.

Entry ₹100 · foreign ₹600● composite ticket

Gulzar: The rooftop cafés opposite sell the famous photo with a coffee; the entrance is round the back, on the City Palace side.

Jantar Mantar
11:45open 09:00–16:3045–60 min5 km

Jantar Mantar

Near solar noon the 27-metre Samrat Yantra’s shadow is shortest and you can watch it move — about a millimetre every second.

1734 — Nineteen stone instruments built 1728–1734 by Sawai Jai Singh II; the Samrat Yantra is the world’s largest stone sundial, accurate to two seconds. UNESCO World Heritage since 2010.

Entry ₹100 · foreign ₹600● composite ticket

Gulzar: Take the official guide here (₹200–300) — it is the one monument that makes no sense without one.

City Palace
12:45open 09:30–17:001.5–2.5 hrs5 km

City Palace

Midday is fine here: the courtyards are shaded and the Peacock Gate is painted, not lit.

1729 — Begun in 1729 by Sawai Jai Singh II, and still partly the residence of the former royal family; the two silver urns in Diwan-i-Khas are the largest silver objects in the world.

Entry ₹300 · foreign ₹700rate revised 2026 · confirm at the counter

Run by the MSMS II Museum Trust — not on the state composite ticket. Its own combined ticket adds Jaigarh and Gaitor.

Gulzar: Next door to Jantar Mantar — we walk you between the two and bring the tuk-tuk round to the Tripolia side.

Albert Hall Museum
15:00open 09:00–17:00 and 19:00–22:001–1.5 hrs5 km

Albert Hall Museum

Mid-afternoon the pigeons own the lawn in front of it; after seven the sandstone is lit in colour and there is a separate night ticket.

1887 — Opened 1887; Indo-Saracenic design by Samuel Swinton Jacob. The foundation stone was laid by the Prince of Wales in 1876 — the visit the city was painted pink for.

Entry ₹100 · foreign ₹600● composite ticketrate revised 2026 · confirm at the counter

Gulzar: Ask for the Egyptian mummy and the Persian carpet; skip it entirely if museums are not your thing and we go to Galta instead.

Isarlat (Sargasuli)
16:15open 09:30–16:3020–30 min5 km

Isarlat (Sargasuli)

Climb it in the last hour it is open: the rooftops of the pink grid go gold and the whole 1727 plan reads from the top.

1749 — A seven-storey victory tower built in 1749 by Maharaja Ishwari Singh after the war of succession — the tallest thing inside the old walls.

Entry ₹50 · foreign ₹200● composite ticketrate revised 2026 · confirm at the counter

Gulzar: On the business-card Day I list for a reason: it is the view of the city nobody else takes you to.

Nahargarh Fort — Sunset Point
17:30open 10:00–17:30 (the viewpoint stays open later)1.5–2 hrs13 km

Nahargarh Fort — Sunset Point

Sunset. The whole plain of Jaipur turns amber under you and the Aravalli ridge goes black behind the sun.

1734 — Built in 1734 by Sawai Jai Singh II as the retreat that closed the defensive ring with Amer and Jaigarh; Madhavendra Bhawan’s nine identical queens’ apartments are the reason to go inside.

Entry ₹100 · foreign ₹600● composite ticketrate revised 2026 · confirm at the counter

Gulzar: Cabs climb the fort road; a tuk-tuk can too, slowly — we tell you which before you book. Padao, the open-air restaurant on the wall, does a drink at sunset.

Birla Mandir — evening aarti
19:00open 06:00–12:00 and 15:00–21:0030–45 min5 km

Birla Mandir — evening aarti

The white marble is floodlit from dusk; the seven o’clock aarti is the one to be inside for.

1988 — The Laxmi Narayan temple, built in white marble by the Birla family in 1988 on the Moti Dungri hillside.

Free entry

Gulzar: Shoes off, shoulders covered, phones away during aarti. We hold your bags.

Patrika Gate
19:45open 06:00–21:0020–30 min11 km

Patrika Gate

After dark the painted arches are lit from inside and the one-point corridor photo needs no crowd control.

2016 — Inaugurated in 2016 at Jawahar Circle — nine painted arches, one for each region of Rajasthan.

Free entry

Gulzar: Ten minutes from the airport road, so it pairs with a late flight or a Chokhi Dhani evening.

Chokhi Dhani
20:30open 17:00–22:303–4 hrs20 km

Chokhi Dhani

Lantern light, folk dance, camel and bullock-cart rides and a dinner served on leaf plates. Arrive by six-thirty to see the village before the dinner rush.

1989 — Opened in 1989 on the Tonk Road as India’s first ethnic-village dining resort.

Entry ₹1,000 · foreign ₹1,000rate revised 2026 · confirm at the counter

Per person, dinner included — Rajasthani dinner from ₹1,000, royal thali ₹1,200, buffet ₹1,700.

Gulzar: We wait. The drive back is 40 minutes and the bottom-nav WhatsApp button works from the car park.

Jaigarh Fort
09:30open 09:00–16:301.5–2 hrs15 km

Jaigarh Fort

Morning, before the haze builds — the ramparts run along the ridge for three kilometres and the view drops to Amer on one side and the city on the other.

1726 — Built in 1726 above Amer to guard the treasury and the cannon foundry; the Jaivana, cast here in 1720, is the largest wheeled cannon in the world.

Entry ₹150 · foreign ₹200rate revised 2026 · confirm at the counter

Not on the state composite; on the City Palace combined ticket.

Gulzar: The Hill Palaces half-day: Jaigarh, Nahargarh, Sunset Point — a cab route, the climbs are long for a tuk-tuk.

Galta Ji — the Monkey Temple
06:30open 05:00–21:001–1.5 hrs10 km

Galta Ji — the Monkey Temple

Early: the macaques bathe in the kunds at first light and the gorge is cool. Free — anyone asking foreigners for a ticket at the gate is not official.

18th c. — An eighteenth-century temple complex built in a gap in the Aravalli hills under Sawai Jai Singh II, around natural spring-fed tanks.

Free entry

Gulzar: Carry no food in your hands. Gulzar carries the peanuts.

Gaitor ki Chhatriyan (Royal Gaitor)
09:00open 09:30–17:0045–60 min8 km

Gaitor ki Chhatriyan (Royal Gaitor)

Morning: the white marble cenotaphs against Nahargarh hill, and almost nobody there.

1727 — The royal cremation ground of the Kachhwaha rulers since the city’s founding; Sawai Jai Singh II’s cenotaph, twenty carved pillars under a dome, is the finest.

Entry ₹30 · foreign ₹100

Gulzar: On the Day I card between City Palace and Galta — fifteen minutes from the palace, on the Amer road.

Elephant Village (Hathi Gaon)
12:30open 09:30–18:301.5–2 hrs14 km

Elephant Village (Hathi Gaon)

The elephants come home from Amer duty around noon; the bathing pond is busiest then.

2010 — Established in 2010 by the Rajasthan government to rehouse Amer’s elephants and their mahout families outside the congested town.

Entry ₹100 · foreign ₹350rate revised 2026 · confirm at the counter

Feeding, bathing and painting sessions are priced separately by the keepers (₹500–1,500).

Gulzar: Fits the Day II list after Amer and Jal Mahal. We know which mahouts treat the animals well and book only with them.

Sisodia Rani ka Bagh
16:00open 08:00–20:0045–60 min10 km

Sisodia Rani ka Bagh

Late afternoon: the terraces step down to the fountains and the Radha-Krishna murals are in shade.

1728 — A tiered garden built in 1728 by Sawai Jai Singh II for his Sisodia queen, on the Agra road.

Entry ₹50 · foreign ₹200● composite ticketrate revised 2026 · confirm at the counter

Gulzar: Pairs with Galta — both sit on the east side, out of the city traffic.
